Here is the original study from Cambridge. The amazing thing is that it works for other languages as well.
When I first read this, I stopped worrying about spelling in general. General speedreading techniques force you to comprehend entire lines of text at a time by building context rather than a single word at a time. It takes effort for me to even realize words are misspelled.
